Police radio monitoring: How does it work?
In principle, the interception of the police radio is prohibited-but there are still possibilities.
- In the past, the so-called analogue radio technology was used throughout Germany, so it was even possible to listen to the police radio with a converted commercial radio-with a radio scanner that was even easier
- In a few corners of Germany, listening to the analogue radio is still possible, but is increasingly switched off as the police here switch to digital radio. Here it is hardly possible to listen.
- With a wireless sca nner for the digital range, it would be theoretically possible, however, it is necessary to decrypt the radio traffic special encoded cards which are not available. In this way, the police and the rest of the BOSfunk can be protected from unauthorised listening.
- There are various web pages on the net where you are supposedly able to listen to the police radio online, we can only warn against this!
Is police radio eavesdropping punishable?
In § 89 of the Telecommunications Act this is stipulated: unauthorized persons are not allowed to listen to the police radio! Ultimately, a judge decides how the whole thing will be punished. In the past, however, there were already delicate sentences of imprisonment of up to 2 years or high fines.
